Feminist theologian Rosemary Radford Ruether contends that a culture’s creation story reveals that culture’s worldview. The worldview, in turn, yields mandates for how people should relate to each other, how heaven relates to earth, and how gods relate to humans. These mandates become holy Law.
Here is my creation story and the Law it sanctifies.
***
In the beginning there was Nothing and Something, which I call God and Goddess. Nothing and Something made Love, and, in a primordial Orgasm, combined their essential natures into an ever-expanding matrix of form and void. Form and void helixed into the atoms of Hydrogen and Helium, who later begat all the galaxies, including our own Milky Way. The substance of Sun and the essence of Earth coalesced, as did the bodies of their planetary companions. Surrendering to their mutual forces of gravity, our Father Sun and Mother Earth, along with their extended celestial family, settled into an orbiting dance. Father Sun and Mother Earth made Love and brought forth all manner of Life through Earth’s fertile womb. Together they have created all generations of Life. They created us — you and me: humans — as well as our brothers and sisters: the trees, the oceans, the fish, the four-leggeds, and the winged ones, all manner of beings. We are all of the same family, sourced from the same cosmic courtship. Ours is a legacy of Love.
Love, then, is the Law. As such, it shall be the guiding light for all action unfolding in the Great Work of midwifing our World into the next era of evolution, wherein all aspects of the Universe are seen as divine and interconnected. I possess no script for this Love. I have only an ongoing, daily prayer to let Love flow through me. Though the specific words change, the heart of the prayer is this:
“Dear God and Goddess, Creators of All that Is, please allow me to be a clear channel for Divine Love. May I release all obstructions to Love flowing through me. May I use my voice to speak for Love. May I use my gifts in service of Love. May all people everywhere know the beauty of True Love.”

This is one story. There are as many stories as there are people to tell them. As makers of meaning, human beings weave and reweave the Web of the Universe through their stories.
What is your creation story? How does it empower the Law at work in your world? More importantly, who writes your story and its Law? Being your own spiritual author-ity means you do.
Most of us inherit stories (from our culture, our family, our religion) and unthinkingly act out their Laws. Dive deep into your inherited story to consciously claim it. You may find it needs revision to endorse the World you wish to live in.
